Questioning Your Identity and Embracing Your Inner Landscape

If I had to ask myself who am I a few years ago, I would've just simply listed some various labels that I associated with! Things like i’m an operations manager, a partner, a divorcee, a stepmom, a daughter etc (you catch my drift!)

However, it has taken me a while to realize that these labels, knowingly or unknowingly, limit our potential. I mean, surely, thats not all I am? In this journal entry I wanted us to embark on a journey of a deeper form of self-discovery, delving deeper into our emotional and spiritual landscapes.

So, I invite you to pause for a moment and ask yourself, who are you right now?

Embracing the Present Moment:

Imagine if I asked you that question again, could you create a more present state of awareness for you to respond from? Take a moment to sit with yourself and explore who you are in this very moment. Starting with your emotional state, are you feeling anxious, excited, angry, or sad? Now, let's dive even deeper into your inner world. Notice the sensations within your body. Are you feeling tight, light, constricted, tingly, or heavy?

It is amazing to observe how your internal world shifts, allowing yourself the grace of being pleasantly surprised by how you transition from one feeling or state to another. Facinating how much we actually experience and shift when we pay attention right? Also, it's okay to let something be there for a while too. If it feels right and you are regulated (you feel resourced, anchored, safe) enough to do so, just observe and sit with it for however long you can.

Moving Beyond Labels:

Rather than giving ourselves an overarching label of who we are (which again, is so limiting!), can we simply listen to our body in the present moment? Remember, we are constantly changing and evolving! Why should we just be this one stagnant thing? Nature is always moving!

If we practice sensing who we are at each and every moment, we have a better chance of moving in alignment with how our body, heart, soul needs us to be. I once heard a saying by Yung Pablo that resonated deeply with me (don’t have the direct quote so bear with me). He wakes up to his wife every day ready to experience her as a new person. This…this was such an "aha" moment for me! The mindset shift of realizing that I am not the same person I was a moment ago was titillating (ha always wanted to use that word haha) but honestly, embracing this constant change brings a sense of freedom and excitement rather than fear of the unknown and uncertainty that is part of our now and future!

The Journey of Embodiment:

While there are various definitions of being embodied, what we’ve been talking about today really does fall into that very essence of it. I believe true embodiment is the ability to stand still or be quiet for just long enough to tap into what your soul and body truly need from you today or in that very moment. It takes time and practice to become still enough to move towards this subtle pull and to hear what your heart, soul, and body are saying to you!

Our cognitive self, driven by the mind, often drowns out these subtle signals and our ego (which seeks safety and comfort) whilst just trying to keep us ‘safe’ actually just keeps us anchored in the known, even if it may not align with the desires of our heart and soul. By knowing who you are, in this very moment, you get to actually say hmmm no that doesn't feel true or right to me instead of moving on auto pilot or conditioning <3

Embracing True Presence:

My hope is that through working with a therapist that can use these different somatic and holistic approaches, you can experience what true presence feels like and redefine its meaning for yourself! By shifting from an external sense of who you are to a deeper knowing from within, you can tap into that magical internal space.

To explore this further, I invite you to subscribe to the upcoming 6-Day Embodiment Series, where we will discuss key steps that can make this process easier than diving straight into hearing who you are in the current moment.

Conclusion:

The journey of self-discovery and questioning our identity is a profound and transformative one. By embracing the present moment, moving beyond labels, and connecting with our inner landscape, we can unlock a greater sense of freedom and fulfillment. So, pause, reflect, and embark on this adventure of self-exploration. You might be surprised at what you discover about yourself along the way.

Remember, true presence and understanding yourself deeply is an ongoing process, but the rewards are immeasurable.
